Year 5 - Albatross
Welcome to Albatross Class
Hello, I’m Neil and I am lucky enough to be teaching Albatross class this year at Parklands Educate Together.
In Year 5, our curriculum is enriching, meaningful and active so that our children can become fully immersed in their learning. The children will learn through a series of well-planned and sequenced lessons to engage children in their broad range of learning opportunities.
This year in Albatross, we are covering a variety of fascinating topics including:
Term 1: Full Steam Ahead
• Explorers
Term 2: Who Let the Gods out?
• Ancient Greeks
Term 3: I Want My Mummy
• Ancient Egyptians
Term 4: Keep Calm and Carry On
• World War One
Term 5: Secret Destination
• International country comparison study
Term 6: A Pollution Solution
• Climate action focusing on local community
Please feel free to look at our topic web as it details the key learning points and vocabulary for our topics this term.
We are going to be swimming in Term 1 and 2. Please ensure that your children have everything they need to partake in this activity.
• Swimming costume
• Swimming hat
• Towel
• Any other clothing they may need to change into (including pants if they are wearing their costume under their clothes).
• Goggles optional
• Hair bands for longer hair
Home learning is focused on spellings, developing a love for reading, independent research on our topic of the term, diary and creative writing independently, and times tables practices. They will receive their new spellings on a Friday via email and have one week to practice these before a test the following Friday.
All children have Times Tables Rockstars logins for them to practice at home. This website, along with www.timestables.co.uk, allows them to be able to practice and improve their knowledge, accuracy and speed when working with times tables. This will ultimately help them when working through their maths topics in class.
I look forward to working alongside you and your children this year. If you have any questions, comments or concerns throughout this year, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
